I worked last night. And by worked, I mean that I sat around watching computer science videos for a large portion of the shift. Haha, I had a great assignment. I feel like most people would love to have a job with easy shifts, sitting around watching videos…BUT NOT THIS GIRL haha. It’s great and all sometimes, but I’d definitely prefer to have a mentally engaging job that I enjoy doing and learning more about. So that’s why I’ve been watching computer science lectures as often as possible. I thoroughly enjoy
learning about how computers work and how small each simple, tiny circuit that provides the basis for all computer function really is. SUPER COOL.
On a personal note, I’ve also been thinking a lot about a conversation that Derek and I had right before my shift. I’m not sure how to talk about this without sounding like an asshole. But it’s my diary about my fucking thoughts so who gives a shit. He called me to tell me that he spontaneously decided to get his brother an early birthday present – a couple of computer parts that costed $600 total. First of all…Holy shit that is a lot to spend on one person at one time (though he did something very similar last year for his brother). Second of all, I’m definitely not jealous or unappreciative when I say this, but last year he gave me a bouquet of roses. I appreciated the gesture, but I’ve told him many times that I’d rather spend money (or spend none at all) doing something that we can enjoy together (rather than something that wilts within a few days). It just felt…generic. And
we had been dating for almost two years. I was surprised that he couldn’t think of one thing that would’ve made it personalized. Like even a bouquet of cat toys for Schmee! That would’ve been extremely special, not to mention cheaper! Am I an asshole for thinking this? Maybe a little…but I can’t stop dwelling on it.
the thing is, it’s so easy to give someone a really good gift. There are literally two steps:
- figure out what that person likes to spend time doing
- buy something that helps them spend more time doing that activity/something that makes it easier to do that activity/or some way to do an activity like that with that person
DONE. BAM. EASY. You are guaranteed to give someone something that they’ll really enjoy.
Every. Single. Time.
